He was a Capsten Lathe Hand in 1939. As a lad, to earn money, Bob used to get up very early to catch the milkman’s horse. Bob won a scholarship to Rugby College, but because he was the eldest, the family needed his income, so did not send him. Bob always loved camping, and in later life, his passion was caravanning. Having had pleurisy, not long after he had married, Bob was not eligible for call-up during WW2. because he was a skilled Turner by trade, his skills gave him rsquo;reserved occupationrsquo; status. While working at the Alvis, he was a part-time fireman. On the evening of 14 November 1940, he was on duty in Coventry City Centre, the night of the blitz. He died on 25th March 1999 in Walsgrave Hospital.
