John was baptised at St Mary Church, Worsbrough, Barnsley, Yorkshire on 2nd October 1842. Eliza Hamnerton age 39 and John Hamnerton age 14 who arrived in Melbourne on the ship "Red Jacket" in July 1859. Steve Green obtained the microfiche of the hand written ship's passenger list. It shows that someone could have interpreted the double m as an m and an n. The list also shows that the ship left Liverpool in May 1859. I think Liverpool would be the logical port for a Sheffield person to leave from. The list also showed some confusion regarding whether they were English or Irish. John's age in the shipping record is a couple of years too low but Eliza's age matches Elizabeth's. If Eliza is our Elizabeth, it is strange that there is no family history here regarding her - but then there is little history of John's early years in Australia either. The search goes on. Fran Heap found the same shipping record in England He married Elizabeth Jane Boase in 1862 at Geelong, Australia and had five children, John, Gertrude Elizabeth, Ada, Minnie & Horace. John established a Jewellery business at Little Ryrie Street, Geelong and resided there between 1903 & 1909. He died on 30th August 1909 at Geelong, Australia and was buried at Geelong Eastern Cemetery.
