Father : Unknown Unknown Mother : Unknown Unknown Born : Farmington, Franklin County, Maine, America (14th January 1798) Adin married Susanna Cottle and had eight children, Abigail, Adin, Susan Cottle, Miriam, John B, Sophia A, Amanda Melvina & George Sylvester. Adin died on 24th March 1853 at Lee County, Illinois, America. Adin Briggs and Susanna Cottle lived for a time at or in the town of Industry east of Farmington and also in or near Starks and Anson, Maine, in Somerset County. After the lapse of some years they moved to a stony farm, on top of a high hill/mountain in Lexington/Highland Township, about 25 miles northeast of Farmington. The mountain top is still known and shown on maps as "Briggs Hill". It is apparently about 2000 feet above sea level and towers about 1500 feet above the Sandy River Valley, which lies west of the hill. Briggs Hill, while located in the extreme southeast corner of Highland Township, seems to run across the township line south into Lexington Twp. so the Briggs farm may have been in Lexington Twp The records at the county seat of Lee County, (Dixon), show that Amos C. Stedman and wife conveyed to Adin Briggs, under date of Sept. 20th, 1854, all of the West Half of the N. E. Quarter of Section Fourteen (14), Township Thirty-eight (38) North, Range Two (2), containing 80 acres, for a consideration of $280.00 |
