Richard was baptised on 30th October 1856 in St Peter Church, Woolton, Liverpool, Lancashire. He resided at 33, Church Street Standish, Lancashire in 1871. Richard married Mary Ann Lythgoe at St Wilfrid Church, Standish on 14th April 1883 and had four children, Wilfred, Joseph, Frank & another Frank. He was a Coal Miner between 1871 & 1901. In 1891 the family were living at High Street, Standish. By 1901, after the death of his wife, the family had split up with Wilfred and Frank staying with close relatives in Standish but Richard and Joseph had moved to 16, Navigation Street, Leigh. On 9th May 1902 he was convicted of being a Drunkard and sent to HMP Wakefield for 14 days. Richard died in 1917 in Leigh.

He married Matilda Lyon on 5th June 1911 at St Matthew Church, Highfield, Pemberton, Lancashire and had nine children, Cyril, Hirace Henry, Clifford Allan, Ada, Alfred Charles, Joan Mary, Eileen, Noel, Doreen. Joseph died in 1930 in Wigan.
